Dental Bleaching:

Dental Bleaching is a procedure where by certain bleaching agents are applied to the teeth in order to remove external and internal stains thus leaving the teeth several shades lighter. Various concentrations of Hydrogen Peroxide and Carbamide Peroxide are available for this use.

Disadvantages:

 ο Extended treatment time may be necessary

** Bleaching might cause mild sensitivity to your tooth- which is reversible

*** Bleaching might cause some Gum irritation for few, which is also reversible   ( Reversible- the problem settles down as you  stop bleaching)

TYPES OF BLEACHING:

  • Office bleach:
    • Dentist asissted
    • Gums and lips protected
    • special light and bleaching gel used
    • 30 - 60 minutes, 3-4 sittings
    • can be combined with home bleach depending upon the severity of stains
    • mostly a higher concentration of Bleach as 30- 45% is used in Office Bleach
    • At times results are Immediate after the Bleach session .
    • Laser bleaching – Its a single visit bleaching done by the dentist. It takes less than 1 hour to make your teeth 3-4 shades brighter.
  • Home bleach:
    • done at home
    • special custom made tray used
    • 1 - 2 weeks
    • worn in the night or day depending on convenience
    • your Dentist might use10%, 16% 0r 20% Bleach concentration according to your stains and depending upon the treatment plan.

Post Treatment Care:

Your diet and habits will largely determine how long the bleaching effect will last. With good oral hygiene and a close watch on the exposure of your teeth to external stains from tobacco, beverages, etc., your bleached teeth should maintain their color for a long time. If you choose, regular touch up sessions can be carried out once a year to ensure your teeth look their best.
