Clear aligners are also known as invisible aligners / Invisalign / transparent Aligners. They are trays made of special material which are used to straighten teeth just like braces. Clear aligners are clear, practically invisible braces that can gently align your teeth. They provide an effective and comfortable way to straighten your smile without the inconvenience of wearing metal or ceramic braces with wires. They get the job done with less time, less discomfort, less hassle.

Clear aligners are used to correct all type of Alignment issues like

  • Crooked teeth / crowding of teeth
  • Spacing between Teeth
  • Overbite / Deep Bite / Open Bite

PROCESS

Treatment begins with taking X-rays, Study Measurement and photographs for Diagnostic purposes. Then information is processed using specific software where future results are computed and then the milling machine automatically fabricates the set of trays. 25-40 Trays may be required for complete alignment. They use gentle and constant force to move teeth to the required position without going through the hassle of metal wires and brackets.

Composite buttons (also called attachments) are small, tooth-colored shapes bonded to teeth during clear aligner treatment. They act as “grips” that help the aligners apply the right type of force to move teeth effectively. Sometimes, to help teeth move into perfect alignment, your dentist may gently create a tiny amount of space between the teeth. This is called Interproximal Reduction (IPR). It involves polishing between teeth to remove a very thin layer of enamel (usually 0.2–0.5 mm).

MATERIAL USED

Aligners are made from special medical-grade plastic that is:

  • Clear and smooth – making them nearly invisible and comfortable to wear.
  • Safe and biocompatible – contains no BPA, latex, or harmful chemicals.
  • Strong yet flexible – allows gentle pressure to move teeth without breaking.

These materials are specially designed for orthodontics and are much stronger than regular plastic.

Properties desired in aligner material:

  • Optical clarity (esthetic acceptability).
  • Biocompatibility (non-toxic, non-carcinogenic).
  • High elastic recovery (to deliver continuous force).
  • Crack and stress resistance.
  • Dimensionally stable under oral conditions (humidity, temperature, saliva).
  • Thickness: Usually 0.5–1.0 mm sheets, vacuum- or pressure-formed over 3D-printed models.

ATTACHMENTS

Composite Buttons (Attachments) for Aligners:

During clear aligner treatment, small tooth-colored “buttons” called attachments may be placed on certain teeth. These are made of the same safe material as white dental fillings and are almost invisible. They act like tiny handles, helping your aligners grip the teeth better and move them more effectively. Attachments allow for complex tooth movements such as rotation or pulling a tooth slightly into place. Placing them is quick, painless, and temporary. Once your treatment is complete, the buttons are easily removed, leaving your teeth smooth and natural.

🔹 What They Are

  • Made of composite resin (the same material used for tooth-colored fillings).
  • Bonded temporarily to the front surface of certain teeth.
  • Shaped differently depending on the movement needed (rectangular, oval, beveled, etc.).

🔹 Why They’re Used

  • Improve aligner retention (help trays stay snug on teeth).
  • Allow complex movements like rotations, extrusions (pulling a tooth out slightly), or root control.
  • Distribute force more efficiently so treatment is faster and more predictable.

🔹 Placement & Removal

  • Painless procedure: dentist uses a template aligner to position the buttons accurately, bonds composite, then cures with light.
  • Removed at the end of treatment, leaving no damage to the enamel.

🔹 Things to Know as a Patient

  • They may feel slightly rough at first, but you’ll get used to them quickly.
  • Aligners may be a bit harder to remove because of the attachments.
  • Buttons are tooth-colored, but still slightly visible up close.
  • Oral hygiene is important—plaque can build up around them if not cleaned well.

👉 They are a crucial part of clear aligner treatment for predictable results, not a complication.

 INTERPROXIMAL REDUCTION

It simply means polishing a tiny bit of enamel between the teeth to make space for them to move properly with your aligners. It’s completely safe, painless, and only removes a very thin layer—less than the thickness of a fingernail. You might feel a slight vibration or a feeling like flossing with fine sandpaper, but no pain. This helps your teeth fit into alignment smoothly and avoids unnecessary extractions. Once done, you won’t notice any difference in your teeth except that the aligners will work more effectively.”

  • It is safe, painless, and does not weaken the teeth.
  • The enamel is removed with the help of a guided kit which ensures the exact space created as per plan .
  • It avoids unnecessary tooth removal and helps prevent extractions.
  • IPR allows teeth to shift smoothly into place and ensures a stable bite after treatment

PAINLESS IS PLEASURE
